Umbra is a dark evening fragrance from the fictional house Aurelane. One voice, fourteen words, and long silences. The actor practices restraint, breath, and letting each word land.
Black. A single point of light far away, growing slowly.
Sound: one slow breath. Silk moving. Nothing else.
(Note for the actor: every word is placed. Do not fill the pauses. Breathe before each line and let the breath be heard.)
ANNOUNCER
(barely above a whisper, close to the mic)
After the party.
Long pause. Four full seconds. The light resolves into a woman at a high window, the city below, her back to us.
ANNOUNCER
After the lights.
Pause. Three seconds. She turns her head, not her body.
ANNOUNCER
(a breath before the words, then let them land)
What stays.
Pause. Five seconds. A bottle of dark glass on the sill catches the last of the light. Hold on it.
ANNOUNCER
(one word, one breath)
Umbra.
Pause. Two seconds.
ANNOUNCER
(softer still)

Fade to black. Silence. Hold two seconds before the end.
